Our first therapy session, or sometimes the first few, are intake sessions. Unlike subsequent sessions, our first sessions will be structured, and I will ask you specific questions so I can become familiar with your history and current strengths and difficulties as efficiently as possible. After that, psychodynamic sessions are free form and lead by you. Whatever has been on your mind, whatever has been noteworthy to you – please share that. I take an active role in sessions; I am not generally reserved. I provide feedback, and can be challenging yet supportive. If I notice that there are subjects you seem to be avoiding, I will tell you. Having said this, I cannot and will not force you to share information before you are ready.
EMDR sessions are completely different…I will address that in a separate post.
